I am captivated by creation and am compelled to share its light. Painting makes me feel connected to the creator; it grounds me. I am struck by imagery that portrays all aspects of nature; its complexity, fragility, power, all its beauty and potential. I aim to capture the vibrancy I see and hope those who view my work feel the same awe and reverence.
My work falls within Contemporary Realism; some more realistic than others, but I enjoy letting loose in abstraction as well. I am drawn to the natural world, whether it be a landscape or a beautiful creature. I am inspired by chiaroscuro and the golden hour, using bold colors that evoke emotions of hope, grace, and harmony.
Depending on the piece, I may begin with spray paint, stencils, and thick acrylic paint, or may start with a traditional acrylic foundation. Both are followed by layers of transparent washes and subtle opaques to obtain depth and movement. Things really come to life when oils are added to take the viewer even deeper into the vivid scene. As a life-long creative, fine art was always my goal but was delayed by motherhood, and I would not change a thing. Once an empty-nester, I began again, so my process is still growing.
I grew up in the California Bay Area and moved to Colorado Springs Colorado over 30 years ago. I was blessed to be a stay-at-home mom of five, returning to work when the youngest started school due to my husband's health at the time. He's better and I am still working but eagerly waiting to transition to my craft full time.
